We were honoured to have the support and participation of the following Toronto-based restaurants for our Fall 2018 dining contest.
The Carbon Bar
Where fun-loving aficionados, gourmands and bon vivants meet to share unpretentious snacks, plates and platters delivered with impeccable hospitality in a space inspired by the storied past of a rock’n’roll discotheque, an upstart TV station and a media giant’s studio.
Aburi Restaurant’s first East Coast location is situated in Toronto’s Harbour Front at Bay and Queen’s Quay. With over 7000 square feet, a raw bar, sushi bar, and large patio, Miku brings contemporary upscale design to the Southern Financial District. Expanding East from Vancouver roots, Aburi Restaurants and Miku Vancouver are well known both locally and worldwide for Aburi Sushi.
Corporate Executive Chef Kazuya Matsuoka along with Chef de Cuisine Michael Acero and Head Sushi Chef Kazuki Uchigoshi bring Aburi Cuisine to Toronto combining traditional Japanese flavours and techniques with local, East Coast elements to create a truly unique dining experience. The menu focuses on Aburi Sushi as well as fresh seafood, respecting the natural flavours of the ingredients while adding a signature Aburi twist. Japanese and European inspired desserts made in house by our pastry team create the perfect ending to the culinary experience.
At Adega (meaning wine cellar), they have taken old recipes and cooking techniques and matched them with modern flavours and other complimentary styles of cuisine. Some dishes need no refining at all and are served in their authentic form. Adega's specialty is seafood and they source it from all over the world: fresh fish from Portugal & Azores Islands, Canadian Maritime Lobster, Norwegian Cod, Tunisian Octopus, Thai Tiger Shrimp, etc. Their daily featured items include fine meats such as Rack of Lamb, Veal Chop and Beef Tenderloin grilled with Mediterranean marinades and spices.
Adega welcomes you to taste one of the oldest and most diverse cuisines of the world.
At Barsa, art is not optional. It’s their salt and pepper; they think Gaudi, dare Dali and play Picasso. Housed in a 19th century heritage protected building where internationally acclaimed designer John Tong has recreated the atmosphere of Barcelona, they pay tribute to the city’s culture and immortalized artists.
Spanish food is festive and flavourful. Barsa's menu is inspired by, and celebrates, the diverse regions of Spain. These unique and playful flavour profiles are showcased in all of their dishes while staying true to local and seasonal ingredients that Ontario offers.
Awai offers an exceptional plant-based dining experience. The members of the Awai culinary team have worked in a wide range of restaurants the world over. They work collaboratively, drawing on their broad knowledge and international experience to create an eclectic style of service. Their dishes reflect the heritage and culture of their pasts through seasonal Canadian produce. Awai believes that the combined talents of a skilled group can produce far more creativity than any individual could.
